14mm Imperial Engineered Oak™ Timber Flooring FAQ

What is 14mm Imperial Engineered Oak™?

14mm Imperial Engineered Oak™ is a premium engineered timber flooring featuring a 3mm genuine European Oak wear layer bonded to a high-performance multi-layer hardwood plywood core.

The engineered construction is designed to provide excellent dimensional stability while retaining the authentic appearance and natural character of genuine European Oak.

What are the dimensions of the 14mm Engineered Oak planks?

Each plank measures 1900mm long × 190mm wide × 14mm thick, with a 3mm genuine European Oak top layer.

The flooring features a 4-sided micro-bevel and traditional Tongue + Groove joining system.

What grade of European Oak is used?

The collection is manufactured using ABCD Natural Grade European Oak, showcasing the natural grain, knots, colour variation and character associated with genuine European Oak timber flooring.

Is 14mm Engineered Oak Flooring durable?

Yes. 14mm Imperial Engineered Oak™ is designed for long-term performance, combining a genuine 3mm European Oak wear layer with a premium multi-layer hardwood plywood core.

The 3mm wear layer can also be lightly sanded and recoated during its lifetime, when carried out appropriately by a flooring professional.

Is Engineered Oak Flooring suitable for Australian conditions?

Yes. The multi-layer engineered construction is designed to minimise expansion and contraction compared with solid timber flooring and provides excellent dimensional stability for Australian climatic conditions.

Can 14mm Imperial Engineered Oak™ be installed over concrete?

Yes. Engineered Oak can be installed over properly prepared concrete substrates. Concrete must be structurally sound, clean, dry and level, with a maximum flatness tolerance of 3mm over 3 metres. Concrete substrates must also be treated with an approved moisture barrier system.

What installation methods are available?

14mm Imperial Engineered Oak™ can be installed using:

  • Direct Stick – Full Glue Down

  • Floating Floor System

Direct Stick is the preferred method where maximum stability is required or where fixed cabinetry, kitchen islands or heavy joinery will be installed. Floating installation requires an approved floating-floor underlay and continuous PVA adhesive through the tongue and groove joints.

Can kitchen islands and fixed cabinetry be installed over the flooring?

Yes — when the flooring is installed using the Direct Stick full glue-down method. Heavy cabinetry, kitchen islands and fixed joinery may be installed over direct-stick flooring. They must not be installed over a floating-floor installation.

Is 14mm Engineered Oak™ suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, but there are specific requirements. The flooring is approved for hydronic in-slab underfloor heating only and must be installed using the Direct Stick full glue-down method. Floating installation and electric underfloor heating systems are not approved. The maximum floor surface temperature must not exceed 26°C.

  • Using entry mats to help reduce abrasive wear

Newly installed flooring should also be protected during construction works.

Can Engineered Oak Flooring be sanded and refinished?

The 3mm genuine European Oak wear layer can be lightly sanded and recoated during its lifetime. Any sanding or refinishing should be assessed and carried out by a suitably qualified flooring professional.

How much flooring is in each pack?
